WINE, DINE, & MAGIC BUS TOUR

WINE, DINE AND MAGIC TOUR combines a bit of history with historic dining and entertainment .  Our day starts with a stop at the popular Dandelion Festival and wine tasting at Breitenbach Winery with lunch on your own. Then we make a stop at the School House Winery in Dover. This historic one room school is the backdrop for our tasting and selection of award winning wines.  Then its off to one of the most fascinating tours you will ever have of the McKinley Monument.  You will be taken on a guided tour rarely seen into the inner features of the monument including the basement and between the walls.  We will dine at the historic Bender’s Tavern, oldest restaurant in Canton est. 1902.  We end the day with a  show at the Palace Theater called Battle of the Magicians, a comedy, magic and illusionist extravagancy.  All this for:

STAR SPANGLED BREAKFAST AT THE CASTLE CLUB

Start your July 4th weekend with a breakfast fundraiser at the Castle Club next to the Victorian House Museum in Millersburg at 434 N. Washington St.  The Historical Society sponsors soup suppers and breakfasts throughout the year to raise funds for various society projects and programming.  The event is by donation and serving begins at 7:30 -10:00. After the breakfast you can plan on attending the Historic Downtown weekend and visit our Civil War - The Holmes Co. Connection presented at the courthouse at 1:00pm  See other event listing for details.

CIVIL WAR - THE HOLMES COUNTY CONNECTION

A fascinating program will be presented on Sat. June 30 in the main courtroom of the Holmes Co. Courthouse.  Civil War - The Holmes Co. Connection will be sponsored by The Holmes Co. Historical Society with expert Forrest Chanay for Killbuck as the featured speaker. There are many interesting facts he will share from his vast knowledge of the subject. Forrest is actively envolved in locating and marking Civil War graves throughout the area and is a frequent presenter in local schools in costume.  He was the founder of the Holmes County Civil War Roundtable.  The program is free to the public and begins at 1:00pm . Please plan on coming early as seating is limited.  You must enter the courthouse on the lower north side first floor.  Bring the family for a bit of history and then celebrate in downtown Millersburg all day ending with a great fireworks display.

FROZEN - Th Glacial History of Holmes County

FROZEN - The Glacial History of Holmes Co. is a fascinating look at the ancient glacial past of the area presented by Professor Nigel Brush of Ashland University.  A local expert in the field this lecture is offered free to the public at the Holmes Co. Library meeting room at 1:00pm.  An optional glacial bus tour from 2:00-4:00pm will is available for $35.00. Professor Brush will lead a tour throughout the county and visit actual glacial remains and explain how they got to what we see today.  The bus is limited seating and is selling fast.   Advanced reservations are available for the bus tour  by calling 330-674-0022. We accept credit cards via phone reservations.  The program at the library is free to the public and no reservations are required for it.

LADIES DAY OUT - MISS HICKORY'S TEA TOUR

Exciting news!!  Margi Oller, our outbound group tour leader has put together a great Ladies Day Out Tour to Miss Hickory's Tea room in Strongsville on Aug. 4  and shopping in Historical Grand Pacific Junction Shopping District. Since we have a smaller motor coach reserved we can only take 37 people. Margi visited this tea room recently in Strongsville and stated it exceeded her expectations.  Our journey begins at the Victorian House, Castle Club. HALLOWEEN AT THE MANSION - GHOST WALKS

This year you can experience the resident ghosts of the Victorian and participate in a mini paranormal investigation lead by our in house expert investigators. Your evening begins with an orientation, ghost stories from the past and instructions for  your investigation.  24 tickets will be sold for each one hour time slot starting at 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 and ending at 10:00.   Your entire evening experience is only $15.00 for society members and $20.00 for non members.  All tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 330-674-0022. The popular Holidays at the Mansion at the Victorian House Museum in Millersburg, Ohio begins on Nov. 17 with an open house and then continues daily from Nov.17-Dec.31.  The hours are Sunday - Thurs. 1:00-4:00pm, Friday and Sat. 1:00-8:00pm.  Local area businesses and organizations transform the 28 room mansion into a Victorian holiday delight.  The home was built by a wealthy industrialist LH Brightman in 1900.  Come and get in the spirit of the holidays.  Self guided tours admission fees are $10.00 adults $9.00 for seniors 60+.  We invite you and your friends to join us for a holiday tradition in historic Millersburg located in Holmes Co.
