Holmes County Historical Society Presents:  YouTube Holmes County - 2018 Video Contest

The Holmes County Historical Society (HCHS) is hosting the first YouTube Holmes County contest!  If you enjoy film production and history, this is the event for you!  A friendly competition opened to all ages to produce a video highlighting a topic of local historical significance.  Winners will be announced on the Holmes County Historical Society website.  Deadline for entries will be accepted up to May 31. Awards will be presented at a YouTube Holmes County event later this year.

Details:        

·       Contest entry form and video consent/release form must be completed and received by the HCHS
         ·  Forms can be located: www.holmeshistory.com
         ·  Must be signed by parent or legal guardian if under the age of 18

·       Video Length: 3 to 7 minutes
·       Format:  Must be supported by YouTube  (MOV, MP4 (MPEG4), AVI, WMV, FLV, 3GP, MPEGPS, WebM.)
·       Content: Videos must feature a topic related to Holmes County History
·       PRIZES!  Prizes winners will be selected by Contest judges for “Picture of the Year” and “Viewer’s Choice”

Official Rules & Guidelines

Introduction.  The YouTube Holmes County Video Contest (the “Contest”) is designed to give participants the opportunity to showcase their creativity and video production skills by highlighting a topic of local historical significance. Contest participants can submit videos in one or more of the following categories: comedy, documentary, drama, paranormal, animation or travel.  

Eligibility.  The Contest is open to all individuals; no purchase or payment is necessary to enter the Contest. All Contest entrants must submit a completed Entry Form and signed and dated Video Consent & Release form. To be eligible for consideration, video submissions must comply with all of the rules and guidelines set forth herein. By submitting a video, participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and Guidelines and the decisions of the Contest judges, which shall be final in all respects. 

Contest Timing. The Contest submission period begins at 9 a.m. ET on January 15, 2018 and ends at 9 a.m. ET on May 31, 2018. Contest judging will take place between June 1, 2018 and June 30, 2018. Winners will be announced on the Holmes County Historical Society website on July 2, 2018. Awards will be presented at a time and place, to be announced at a later date. 

Video Guidelines. All video submissions must meet the following criteria:

·       Duration. Videos must have a run time of not less than three (3) minutes and not more than seven (7) minutes.

·       Format. Videos must be submitted in one of the formats that YouTube accepts.

·       Original Material. All videos must be the original work of the entrant and shall not include any material that violates or infringes another’s rights, including but not limited to material that violates privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or that constitutes copyright infringement.

·       Content Restrictions. Videos must not contain any material which is (as determined by the Holmes County Historical Society, in its sole and absolute discretion) sexually explicit, obscene, pornographic, violent, discriminatory (based on race, gender, religion, nation of origin, physical disability, sexual orientation or age), illegal, offensive, threatening, profane or harassing. In addition, all videos must comply with the YouTube terms of service and specifications for user submissions and video uploads, as may be amended from time to time. 

·       Topics. Videos must explore a topic germane to Holmes County History. By way of example, and without limitation, topics may include historically significant events, notable persons and historic places and locations.

Judging Criteria. Video submissions will be evaluated, based on the following criteria:

·       Video content (thoroughness with which topic is explored, historical significance of the topic, factual accuracy of material, etc.)

·       Creativity and uniqueness of video concept

·       Audio and visual quality of the video

How to Enter. To enter, visit the Holmes County Historical Society website, print and complete the Contest Entry form and the Video Contest Consent and Release form. Email the completed forms to the Holmes County Historical Society at holmescountyhistory@gmail.com; include “Video Contest” in the subject line of your email. After both forms have been submitted, upload your video to YouTube at_______________________. If you do not already have a YouTube account, you will be required to create one to enter the Contest. After we verify all of the submitted information, your video will be officially entered in the Contest.

Prizes. Prize winners will be selected by the Contest judges. All decisions of the Contest judges will be final. Cash awards for Picture of the Year and Viewers Choice will be awarded.

If a winner is found to be ineligible, or not in compliance with these Rules & Guidelines, the prize(s) may be forfeited and an alternate winner may be selected.
