The Holmes County Historical Society is a countywide 501C3, non profit organization dedicated to preserving, collecting and archiving the rich Holmes County history for future generations. The society's base of operation is the Historical Society campus located at 484 Wooster Rd. in Historic Millersburg, Ohio. Our mailing address is PO Box 126, Millersburg, Ohio 44654.
The museum serves a dual function of exhibiting the county's historical collection and special exhibits as well as a showcase of Victorian living with self guided tours provided. Below is the society's missions statement.

Most volunteers say that helping another person is their greatest reward. Many volunteers enjoy new friendships and camaraderie with fellow volunteers and staff, as well as learning new skills and contributing to the community.

The Holmes County Historical Society would like to offer volunteer opportunities to meet your needs. The following are some areas in which we place volunteers. If you do not see an opportunity that appeals to you, please indicate your special interest or talent when you contact us:
Meet, greet, and inform the public. Sell admissions to both the Victorian House Millersburg Glass Museums. Interest and skills recommended - Handle cash and credit card transactions. Good communication skills needed to give guests information about the museums and historical information of each. Able to engage and interact with guests, finding out their interests. Some overall knowledge of Holmes County to help guests with general tourism questions.
Lead interpretive tours after specialized training and mentoring. Interest and skills recommended - Communication skills to tell the story of Millersburg Glass and Ohio’s connection to carnival glass.
Provide a variety of roles for expanded holiday hours, substitute for front desk volunteers or any other specific special need. Interest and skills recommended - Will vary depending on specific needs.
Work with the group coordinator to host in various capacities to facilitate bus tours and groups through the Victorian House Museum or the Millersburg Glass Museum. Interest and skills recommended - Good communication skills. Must know history of the house to answer guest questions. Comfortable working with larger groups and be able to work a flexible schedule.
Help with food and event functions. Includes dining room setup and cleanup, logistics of serving food and caterer coordination. Interest and skills recommended: Some knowledge of food service functions for proper setup and hygiene. Ability to work with the director and events planner to facilitate functions on the Historical Society’s campus. People and communications skills as well as some host experience.
Available to support various projects both time specific and ongoing for the Historical Society’s campus. Interest and skills recommended: Ability to work outdoors, gardening skills highly sought. Light to heavy lifting may be required. Works with the director, curator and facilities/grounds committee to maintain the property.
Work with the director on general office projects both ongoing and project specific. Help maintain membership records, mail preparation, etc. Work with the curator on special exhibits, etc. Interest and skills recommended: Organizational skills and ability to work independently. Office and computer skills required for some positions and knowledge of WORD, EXCEL and other programs as needed.
Opportunity to support the leadership of the HCHS. Interest and skills recommended: Generally available for some daytime or evening meetings. Good team player with people skills working with various groups depending on the committee description.
All donations of $50.00 or more include a free one year family membership.

Now more then ever we need your support as cashflow has been interupted by the Corona Virus situation. Consider making a difference by contributing to the Holmes County Historical Society. Your Annual Giving contributions either directly or thru the Holmes Co. Heritage Partnership during the fall campaign, help support the annual operating costs of the Historical Society. A portion of the funds will be set aside to ensure the continued preservation of the story of our lives, the lives of those we followed and of those who follow us. Contributions made in 2020 up to $300 are deductible to all taxpayers even if you don't itemize and 100% deductible for those that itemize as part of the Care Act.
